2/3 of all motorcycle fatalities are contributed to speeding– statistic from the NHTSA

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), whether or not the motorist was at-fault for causing the accident; in 2/3 of the fatal car-verses-motorcycle accidents the motorcyclists were speeding. Due to the limited protection safety gear provides to a motorcyclist, the impact of being struck by an 8-ton-vehicle moving at freeway speeds usually ends with catastrophic injury for the motorcyclist.

Most riders go over the posted speed limit according to the flow of traffic. Most riders aren’t as reckless as the forty-year-old motorcyclist from Washington that was arrested last week for driving his motorcycle at 92 miles above the posted speed limit! Reckless speeding especially increases the likelihood of accidents resulting in injury or even death.  We urge all motorists should slow down to ensure the safety of Utah commuters and their passengers.
